#BreakTheInternet ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️There was a period that #JeanPaulGoude was revered for photographing black models during a time so many photographers didn’t. Comparatively, in 2014 you now see less black models in mainstream campaigns and on runways than we did during the height of Goude’s career. SAD. It’s incredibly easy to feel “some kind of way” about some of his images. Particularly given current zeitgeist. However so much of the work he produced with #GraceJones was so vital towards broadening how Black Women—-women as a whole actually—-were perceived in the media and entertainment industries. He helped give her a platform to be different. To be a authentic. And to feel secure in her art. While I don’t agree with some of his images (particularly the image that inspired Kim K’s cover … #HATESiT!!), he’s also created some very important work.
